Welcome to our quick hits irl Media NEWSLETTER. This is a shortened version of our regular Wednesday long-form newsletter, except a whole lot shorter, less wordy, and we’ll be delivering it to your inbox every Monday & Friday.

Still the same newsletter that brings you the business behind the news with a healthy dose of sarcasm, but now bite-sized.

In today’s newsletter we discuss Elon Musk is a $400 Billion dollar man, Microsoft shareholders voted ‘No’ to creating a Bitcoin reserve, the Nasdaq closed above 20K for the first time ever, Meta is building a $10 Billion dollar underwater fiber optic cable that will circle the entire globe, Taylor Swift gave out $197 Million dollars in bonuses to her crew and performers on the Eras Tour, NASA says they’re going to be late again on getting back to the moon, and Saudi Arabia has won the rights to host the 2034 World Cup.

NOTE FROM THE EDITOR

I’ve been struggling the last few months with a unique problem: there’s too much news I want to share, and not enough room to cram it all into our weekly Wednesday newsletter. Every week I have to whittle down all of the potential articles I want to write to only (5) topics on Business, Tech, Entertainment, Real Estate, and Sports.

Then I hit upon the idea of keeping my regular Wednesday newsletter format, but stepping up my content creation by sending out a Quick Hits newsletter every Monday & Friday.

Let me know what you think in the comments, and please be sure to take the poll at the end of this newsletter.

Thanks!

As of Friday, December 13, 2024 Elon Musk’s net worth is now $435.1 billion dollars.

Why It Matters

Elon Musk is now worth nearly double the second richest person in the world Jeff Bezos, who has a net worth of $241.9 billion dollars. and Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison who is the third richest person in the world with a net worth of $217.9 billion. Rounding out the top five richest people in the world we have Mark Zuckerberg in forth place with a net worth of $216 billion dollars, and lastly we have Bernard Arnault who has a net worth of $171.4 billion dollars.

What The Future Holds

It’s inconceivable to even imagine today, but the fact is that within the next 10 years it’s completely possible that Elon Musk will become the world’s first Trillionaire!

💰 Business

In a move counter to what many publicly traded companies have been deciding recently, Microsoft shareholders voted ‘No’ to creating a Bitcoin reserve.

📈 Finance

The Nasdaq closed above 20K for the first time on Wednesday, December 11 following a run up in the stock market since Donald Trump was re-elected president.

💻 Tech

Meta (think Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp) is building a $10 Billion dollar underwater fiber optic cable that will circle the entire globe.

🎬 Entertainment

Taylor Swift takes the generosity crown for 2024 by giving an insane $197 Million dollars in bonuses to her crew and performers on the Eras Tour in addition to their salaries, including $100K bonuses for each of the truck drivers that hauled her gear around the world.

🚀 Space

NASA says they are going to be delaying their moon mission even further due to both technical and budget constraints, but they still hope to somehow land astronauts on the moon before China does.

Soccer

Saudi Arabia has won the rights to host the 2034 World Cup in a first of its kind vote by the FIFA. Soccer fans around the world are celebrating, but Amnesty International cautions this is a “moment of great danger” for human rights.

So much news, so little time. Until next time I’m signing out.
