When I was a teenager I used to mow lawns to earn enough money to take the bus into the city on the weekends to go to the comic book store and buy each week’s new comic books, and continue expanding my collection of old Daredevil comics.
I was never that into Superman, because the idea that someone was so powerful they could never be defeated seems like a scam on my young imagination.
But boy do I wish my grandfather had collected Superman comic books!
Recently, the comic book that contains Superman’s very first appearance sold for $6 million dollars!
It was originally printed in 1938, the version sold was part of a larger collection of 250 first run editions spanning from 1937 into the 1940s – otherwise known as the golden era of comic books.
Man that would have been a sweet comic book for my family to have owned. If only I could go back in time and convince my grandfather to buy it and hold onto it until his grandson is born someday. Hmmmm.
